This first photo link is an interview of the photo from photojournalist Brent Stirton in South Africa. 'The Evacuation of Dead Mountain Gorillas', in Eastern Congo. If you are not familar with the conflict in Eastern Africa, let me give you a quick synopsis of the problem which in turn explains the deep significance of the photo: The Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly known as Zaire, is currently seeing the most deadliest massacres since the end of World War II. The Hutu militias have slaughtered more than 800,000 Tutsis after they fled across the border, into what was then known as Zaire, from neighboring Rwanda. The Hutu moved onto the Congo soil after being taken out by Rwandan Tutsis after the genocide in the 1990's. The rebels, Hutu have continued to massacre hundreds of thousands of Tutsi refugees in a brutal civil war that also involves the killings of gorillas. People believe the Hutu are sending a message to the Tutsis by killing the gorrillas in the same brutially manner that they kill the tutsis....
